What Is Perfectionism?

What is Perfectionism?
Perfectionism is defined as the expectation set for others or often for oneself of the need to appear to be perfect. This personality style is characterized by a concern with striving for perfection as is accompanied by self critical evaluations and concerns regarding other's views and their evaluation of us.
Causes of perfectionism
Causes are multiple, but often perfectionism is caused by the fear of judgement or disapproval from others. The root of perfectionism is the belief that your self worth is based on your achievements and often is linked to early childhood experiences.
Can you heal perfectionism?
Here is an idea of dealing with perfectionism. To heal perfectionism you have to intentionally make mistakes and allow yourself to be imperfect. That seems counterintuitive, but is one of the best ways to test outcomes and ultimately to heal perfectionism. You'd be surprised to find out that the negative outcomes you are imagining from making mistakes most likely they won't come true.
