Will I Act On My Thoughts With Impulsivity?

02
Will I Act On My Thoughts?

Let’s review the following facts.

You might be worried that you are going to act on your intrusive thoughts and do the things that run through your mind. Intrusive thoughts tend to get stuck they repeat and they increase in intensity. They can make them feel like impulses, as you were being provoked to do something out of control or dangerous.

However, suffering of intrusive thoughts is a condition of overcontrol. Not under control. Under control conditions are known as impulsivity. Conditions of overcontrol are accompanied by doubt and need for certainty. People who are impulsive act first and think later. People with unwanted intrusive thoughts are overthinkers. Impulses and intrusive thoughts are opposite sides of a continuum.
